To the CIAMS community:
As my tenure as Assistant Director comes to a close, I want to take a moment to thank CIAMS for the wonderful experience of serving in this position for the past two years. The CIAMS AD position was created to support advanced graduate students with a fellowship and provide them with administrative and communications experience in an academic department to advance their professionalization. As a graduate student, it is a rare opportunity to engage first-hand in the administration of an academic department. I am very grateful for the trust the CIAMS faculty have placed in me to make an impact on our department. I would like to thank the CIAMS administrative staff--Donna Duncan, Liz Kirk, Bruce Roebal, and Margaret Rolfe--for all of their help during the past two years. Most of all, I would like to thank CIAMS director Kurt Jordan, whose calm, detailed leadership keeps our ship running smoothly (a metaphor of which I suspect my predecessor, Chris Monroe, would approve).
I am very pleased to be leaving the 2017-2018 CIAMS Assistant Directorship in the talented and capable hands of my fellow graduate student and good friend Eilis Monahan. I hope you will support her throughout the year by attending the CIAMS lectures, podcasts, and events she will be organizing. Our second new director this year will be Prof. Nerissa Russell, who will be taking over the position of Director of Undergraduate Studies from Caitie Barrett. Best of luck to Nerissa and Eilis as they join Kurt and our Director of Graduate Studies, Lori Khatchadourian, as our 2017-2018 CIAMS officers!
